Daily College Preparatory Schedule

In 2010, the decision was made to switch from a typical 5-day per week school schedule to a condensed 4-day per week school schedule with extended class periods. Our condensed school week, which goes from Monday to Thursday, allows our students the opportunity to learn time management skills, practice independent study, meet with teachers outside of class time, and schedule valuable SAT and PSAT prep.

AP LogoAdvanced Placement® (AP®) Classes

Honors courses are available in English 1, English II, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, World Geography, and World History. AP® courses are available in Calculus, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Environmental Science, Art, and Statistics. Dual Credit courses are taught in association with Schreiner University, McMurry University, University of Texas and Texas Tech University.

Grading System

One credit is awarded if the student passes the full year course. A one-semester course awards ½ credit. For transfer students, all grades are recorded from the transcript of the sending district and are given the numerical equivalent according to the grading scale of the sending school.

Our Lady of the Hills is currently on a seven period per day schedule operating within two semesters. Students can earn the equivalent of 3.5 credits within each semester. Twenty-eight credits are required for graduation.

GPA/Class Rank

Our Lady of the Hills is a non-ranking high school; however, we do rank our top two students, using numerical averages, to identify the valedictorian and salutatorian of the graduating class. The Valedictorian and the Salutatorian of each graduating class are the students who have attained the highest and second highest cumulative numeric average in the core subjects: Math, English, Science, Social Studies, World Language, and Theology. To be eligible for either of these distinctions a student must have completed the Foundation High School Program with at least one endorsement. They also must have completed their sophomore, junior, and senior years at OLH. These regulations also apply to all transfer students including international students. Determination of the Valedictorian and Salutatorian will be after the first semester of the senior year.

GPA is calculated on a 100-point weighted scale (10 quality points are added for Honors, AP, and Dual Credit Courses) and is recorded on all official and unofficial transcripts. Quality points are not included on transcripts or report cards but are used to calculate each quarter’s honor roll and the cumulative GPA’s. GPA's on transcripts are calculated using semester averages.

Upon request from a college or university admissions department, the College Board grading scale will be used to convert the cumulative numeric average into a 4.0 GPA with a 1.0 quality point added for Honors, AP , and Dual Credit courses.

Quality points are added in the following courses:

Honors courses: English I, English II, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, World Geography, and World History.

AP® courses: Biology, Calculus, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Environmental Science, Psychology, Statistics and U.S. Government and Politics.
